that's the nice thing about carrousels, they always play the same songs

"I live in New York, and I was thinking about the lagoon in Central Park, down near Central Park South. I was wondering if it would be frozen over when I got home, and if it was, where did the ducks go? I was wondering where the ducks went when the lagoon got all icy and frozen over.
I wondered if some guy came in a truck and took them away to a zoo or something.
Or if they just flew away."

golden brown

Wisconsin is pretty unreal. We went down to the lake and it was filled with these ice cliffs. I seemed to have issues with falling knee-deep in the snow, but it was worth it. And of course it was my favorite weather- cold and foggy (I have reverse SAD ["Oh, is that where the word sad comes from?"]).
Good weather, but better company.

rain, rain (please don't) go away
I made my way down to the quarry today, jumping puddles in my bright-red rain boots, overly excited by the rain.
If only everyday could be like this.

stages of grief

Sorry for the lame post; I know no one wants to see my face more than they have to, but I also see this blog as a documentary tool for myself, and I know I don't ever want to forget how lame I am sometimes.
Two years ago, while wondering the halls of Studio 6B, I had the pleasure of meeting one wonderful, gangly redhead. Yes, he's really that tall. Yes, his hair is really that great. I became more in love than I was before. When I got home from New York I made it a personal goal to start watching Late Night more often (I quite enjoyed it when they had wide studio shots and I could see my old boss, Dana, and then I would get a false sense of self-worth because I know "someone on TV"). When The Tonight Show was handed over, I never missed an episode.
This sucks.

"to see if reindeer...really know...how to fly"

Being the great friend that I am (okay, also because I'm completely in love with these dogs) I went over to Andy's to take pictures Marley and Ellie for next year's Christmas card. They may not be good at sitting still, but they're both really skilled when it comes to jumping. Especially when Andy kicks know in their faces.

ой мороз мороз

It may the combination of the snow and the fact that I've been listening to Russian folk music for 20 minutes, but I think it's time to make my dream of traveling the Siberian Express a reality.
Any volunteers for traveling companions?
PS. Sorry, my globe is a little out of date. But I like it that way.

o tannenbaum

Why yes, it's January 10th, 16 days after Christmas, and we still have our tree. Due to various co-factors ("No, I said I would never misuse the word 'co-factors'") every one has just been too busy to take it down. If it were up to me, it would still be around on Valentines day, but I think tomorrow might be the day we finally lay to rest our wonderful Christmas tree.
I'm usually the last person in the house to go to bed, and I kind of like turning the tree off and look at it sitting in the dark. It reminds me of when I was a little kid and I would sneak down in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve, but I could only see the outline of the tree. It also made me wonder how Santa could see so well in the dark.
I kind of wish that I could still think like that at 22.

a winter wedding

Today my dear friend Charlotte was kind enough to share with me her own little project of writing a new letter every day. Well, I thought I would attempt my own:
But in all seriousness, it was a lovely wedding, a lovely bride, and really, a lovely time. Although tomorrow I'm going to try and regain feeling in my shoulders from lugging those stupid cameras around all day.
Dear Weddings, It was fun while it lasted, right? But I'm so over you.
Love, Hannah.

diana+ f -- attempt number one

For those of you who don't know what a Diana camera is, it's a small, plastic toy camera that was popular in the 1960s. Lomography has brought it back to life and I was lucky enough to get my hands on one. It takes 120mm film, which is a pain in the ass, so I bought a 35mm converter back for it. I was so excited to try it out I immediately shot both rolls of color film that I had. I think it's an understatement that I definitely need to practice. Hopefully after a few rolls (and a few dollars, let me assure you), I can get it to look, ya know, cool.

HOME

Besides the 3 hours of Teen Mom, that I can't seem to get enough of, Away We Go was the perfect thing to watch on New Year's Day. It's a great interpretation of the concept of home, and for those of us who feel like they don't have one right now, it's easy to connect to the story. And for 2010, I'm hoping I can come to terms of finding my own "home". It's a must see.
Plus it has John Krasinski.
