in layers of snow and ice

texts of the month

2011 has treated me very, very kindly. I must say, despite freezing temperatures and lack of a full time job, this has been one of my greatest months. I've come to realize it's all thanks to the people I surround myself with. Every day I get little messages from all of you that always put a smile on my face, so I decided that I would share.

"...[If he turns out to be] Anyone who pretends toys are people. Then abort the mission."

"You are delightful!!!"

"Holy shit this is an angry group of nursing home folks...whew i should have drank more last night."

"We got this. Count your blessings, not your burdens."

"Merr, stupid time moving slowly. I'm so used to watching everything on Netflix that I don't know if I can function on a normal tv schedule."

"So, im hooked on The Bachelor, gay or awesome?"

"Courtesy of my ipod: good morning baaaaaaltimoooore, there's the flasher who lives next door, there's a bum on his barroom stool (casey!). Um, so I miss you."

"Just shakin' for you, that's all. :)"

"I'm watching Parks & Rec and I wish I could be watching it with you! 'Can you photoshop your life with better decisions, Jerry?'"

"People smoke a lot of pot on your floor...A LOT."

Some of these may seem mundane to those who don't know the backgrounds, but they are the things that keep me going through the day (and who could ever go wrong with Parks and Rec quotes?). I think you get a good sense of my friends. I can't wait to see what February might bring.

we'll make a mighty wave

This has to be one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a long while. The video is just the icing on the cake.

the list

01.17.11

Did I mention that the boy on the bus and I made a list? We made a list of all the things we want to do in Chicago. Violet Hour=done. I will definitely be feeling those drinks/late night pizza in the morning.

hangin' on the old telephone wire

Despite the fact that I only got three hours of rest last night, it feels like it's going to be a sleepless night. Thankfully, I have this song.

there will come a time, you'll see

The boy on the bus (as I like to call him) and I had such a delightful evening full meeting a Scotsman, then proceeding to spend his money on the jukebox, watch the bartender try to steal his girl, making our Chicago bucket list, and Sam Adams Winter Lager. More of these nights, please.

in this city of blue

01.06.11 01.06.11 (2)

While Paulie was driving me home last night from Hugo's (delish), we took Lake Shore Drive, and I started to desperately miss the lake. The first few months here I was there every day, but since the new ice age has moved into the city, I don't go out much. But after a pair of knee highs, skinnies, two layers of flannel, and one cozy scarf, I made the short trek to Lake Michigan. It really almost didn't even matter when I got there, I was excited to see the water and city skyline again (flashback to last January on Lake Michigan in MKE, atop mountains of ice, I kept slipping in the snow and I know I was cold, but I couldn't tear myself away). It was actually quite sunny today, but the frigid temperatures didn't mix well with my Polaroid film, but I like how these came out anyway.

new year, new blog

Well, 2010 is over, and sadly my 365 is also over. As much as I loved it, I don't think I'll be attempting it again (and if I did, I would've already failed). So as you may have noticed, I'm changing things up a bit around here. I greatly enjoyed the documentation aspect of the project, so I think I'll just continue with a visual diary for 2011 and beyond. I may even talk about other curiosities as well, who knows. And any input would be delightful.

I know that 2011 will be a great year full of new adventures, new places, and new people. I'm excited for what the new year will have in store for me.

one, one, one one

01.01.11

One year ago today, I started my little project. I never expected that I would actually go through with it. I suppose it was the blog and all (five) of you readers that kept me going. I've documented my entire year. It's kind of a surreal feeling. I've seen some of my darkest moments, but have experienced the amazing things that came out of them. I feel like I'm not the same person I was one year ago, and I'm glad I have the 365 photos to prove it. I don't think I'll attempt the 365 project again, but I'm glad 2010 will have an in-depth documentation for years to come. Thanks for coming with me.
