o canada

The last 10 minutes of the Closing ceremonies, described in one terrifying image:

Gah. The XXI Winter Olympic Games are done. While wallowing around in my grief that I will have nothing to watch anymore, I'll probably buy the highlights DVD. Although I found my 2002 Salt Lake DVD today, only to be disappointed that they didn't show Alexei Yagudin's free skate, nor did they even comment on Yevgeny (I take male Russian figure skaters very seriously).

I found the closing ceremonies to be quite entertaining. They make me want to move to Canada and never come back. Also, they make me want to dress like a maple leaf everyday. But I'm just too excited for words for Sochi. Russia will be EPIC.
Au revoir, Canada; prevyet Sochi!

jeux d'eau

I found this creepy mask today in the closet. I think I should probably wear it more often.

sleeping giant

I wasn't exactly feeling photographically creative today, not that
I really have been at all for awhile.
But, this is what I do when I watch hockey.

up in smoke

I've been wanting the book 1000º Deyrolle for quite some time. Hoping it would eventually go down in price it actually went up. Ugh. Basically, it's a book of photographs of the items that were once part of Deyrolle's "Cabinet of Curiosities" after a fire that destroyed most of the iconic taxidermy building. It's a pretty amazing collection of photographs portraying seared butterflies and destroyed zebras. I found this great little interview with the the photographer, and I thought I would share. You may read it here.

One of the perks of being temporarily unemployed is the pleasure of an afternoon shower. There really is no greater joy in life.

come one, come all, to the greatest show on earth!

Yesterday, Caitlin and I had a lovely idea of moving to Vancouver. It probably doesn't help that it's the Olympics, and today I discovered a website that helps foreigners move to Canada. Of course, what would I do there? Photography? Where does one go to be a commercial photographer...New York? LA? But I want to go to Vancouver.

Maybe I'm coming to the realization that photography just isn't a good career move right now. Or ever. I just kind of want to do my own thing with it, while doing something else where I can do anywhere. I just haven't figured out what that is yet.

But what I really want to be is a contortionist. Then I can join the circus. Why haven't I figured out how to do that yet?

VI night

I guess this is my life now. I think I'm okay with it.

Давай! Давай!

I've been playing with my Bogorodskaya toy, wearing my babushka shawl, and listening to Russian folk music all day in preparation of the Russo-American showdown tonight. I think my priorities might be mixed up, but I can't get enough of that lovable villain.
Also, I should probably look into getting a life sometime soon.

baby it's cold outside

The birds are confused. I hear them, yet, there are still giant icicles hanging outside of my window. Spring, I know you're close. Just come now. Please.

the blue balloon

So, as it turns out, I don't think I ever have to buy the dog another toy. Ever. I've never seen anyone/thing love a balloon so much. She's just so gersh darn cute sometimes. Also, if you haven't noticed, I put a link up (the photo to the right) to some of my 365 "rejects". If you've got some time, take a look around.

PS - Are we all ready for Yevgeny Plushenko tonight? 'Cause I know I am.

a happy anna howard shaw day to us all!

Oh yes. Another Valentine's Day has come, and almost gone. Since I have no significant other, it's not a big deal. Plus I've come to associate the holiday more with my friend's birthday than anything else (Happy birthday C FETT!). But I had to share this adorable cake that my mom made. There were several candy heart cakes made, but unfortunately, most were eaten last night while my family was around. But First Kiss has remained.

Also, just because it's Valentine's day doesn't mean I can't swoon over the likes of Jon Hamm and Jason Sudeikis.

Yes, it's going to be a very good Anna Howard Shaw day indeed.

let the games begin

I. Love. The Olympics.
I'm so excited that I will be sitting in front of the TV for the next two weeks, cheering on Team USA/Canada/Russia, dreaming of moving to Vancouver, and crying at those Go World commercials. I loved the opening ceremonies. While I don't think it quite lived up to the Chinese (in all fairness, the Chinese spent 300-400 million dollars, while the Canadians spent 30-40 million, not to mention that China has about a billion+ people), I still enjoyed them immensely. I loved the constellation segment. Who doesn't love a giant bear infused with Christmas lights?

welcome to siberia

I'm completely snowed in today. Wtf. There's never snow in Ohio.
Also, if you haven't noticed, this whole week is self-portrait week. Bear with me on this one; this is basically what I took because I want to be a member of Lookbook. Haha, at least I'm trying.

my day, covered in powdered sugar

"Guys, I heard we're getting 18 inches of snow."
"I heard 24 inches."
"No, it's going to be 52!"
"Whoooaaaa!"

I wish I could still think like a second grader. They are super entertaining.

Blizzard '10 Checklist:
Drive 30mph on 270: check.
Put on red boots; play in snow: check.
Catch snowflakes on my tongue/pretend I'm 7: check.
After dinner sledding: to do.
Cuddle up with the dog and watch District 9 again: to do.

i pine for the days that i can be line leader once more

I finally decided to go back to work today. Nothin' like spring photo shoots for the elementary kids. I miss elementary school. Things were so great when you were 7 years old and didn't have to worry about working for failing photography studios. Also, I'll admit it, they had chicken patties for lunch today, and I probably would've paid upwards of 10 bucks for one. I miss those too, but nothing beat Mexican Straw Hat day. That was best. They probably don't call it that anymore. It's not very PC. They also can't "say sit Indian style" anymore either. The phrase 'criss-cross applesauce' made a part of my childhood die today.
Here's dreaming to a snow day tomorrow.

wishing for spring

After both the new lookbooks for UO and Anthropologie, I'm completely, 100% ready for spring. That freakin' groundhog better not let me down tomorrow.

Also, I've made it one month!
